    Awesome trip, stunning fish.
For SAFFER the trip just got more expensive after our president's Finance minister's debacle.

Ja flip - that added a few zeros to the total. But I provided for some increases - just hope Zooms can keep quiet for the next few years

    Default Car v Campervan

Sounds great, Ive been to NZ three times now, visiting SA this year.
Do carefully consider car v campervan, there is a continual pressure against freedom camping.
Ive known of two vans being told to leave Fish and Game access points, albeit in high summer Jan - Feb.
In general you would be restricted to designated camp sites, but the months you have chosen would help.
As for guides, well, there is a lot of mythology about huge trout in crystal clear water in the numerous videos.
There are wonderful rivers with wonderful fish for everyone, guides come into their own only when accessing back country waters.
Access is the key to success in my experience.
Take Lake Rotorua for example, 18 Bows in two hours, biggest 4lbs, cost within annual license
    Daily budget in £sterling was.
Accommodation £75 / day up to £130 for fishing lodges
Car £40 / day including fuel over 5 weeks
    Food £50 / day
One guided trip 18km rafting and sight fishing £300 per person
Happy to mail direct and pop you some websites
    Cheers

We aren't getting younger, and in 5 year's time all our kids will be old enough for mom to survive for 2-weeks without us. Major issue is planning ito saving up, so planning budget for us is NB. Once there we will probably take a guide for a day or 2.

The reason for the post is to ask the guys that have been to NZ before, if our costs are more-or-less ballpark. We decided (at this stage) to rent a campervan (might have to do 2 campervans if the party number demands it) since we would have accommodation wherever we decide to travel, the option of a kitchen, a shower, a toilet etc.

Most of the variable costs (yellow cells) have been exaggerated a bit as a worst-case-scenario, any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, 5-years is a long time, but we have to start somewhere
