    Default fly size

    Hi guys

    I just finished reading an article about a guy that used bigger flies on leeries and it seemed to work better than a smaller fly. so whats your opinion? ty bigger deceivers or stay with smaller flies? the flies in the article was as long as a hand

    We fly fish for leeries in the Breede River and off shore. There is no doubt that bigger flies/poppers catch bigger fish. Most fly fishermen catch juveniles +- 2-4 kgs…normally they are fishing small clousers etc. Try the hand long jobs and big poppers ( you don't have to strip them fast…) and you may be surprised. Our biggest fly rod leerie in the Breede is a 13 kg fish…on a GT popper.

    I agree. Bigger is better! Use the biggest fly you can cast with your chosen setup. And in my opinion I catch more and bigger leeries on a intermediate line, subsurface than with a floating line.
