Also, if people had to look a little deeper into lines according to the fishing requirement, and not only the lines casting characteristics, we might find that, just like rods, lines have a huge part to play in the experience once the line has been cast. Im not trying to understate the importance of actually delivering the fly, but once the fly is actually on or in the water, the line has an additional role to play, and that is what I am perhaps more interested in. There is obviously an important element in the delivery of the fly, and the casting characteristics of the line (combined with several other things) will influence where the fly lands, but once the fly is where you want it, the line needs to perform a different function. The degree of speciality of the fishing situation, will determine the degree of specialist functionality that the line must provide. A case in point, is the "long leader to hand" fishing, where the fly line is almost completely taken out of the equation, because there basically isn't a conventional fly line that is able to perform the required function. We then have to rely on leader modifications and rods with specific abilities that enable that particular type of fishing. There are other examples of fishing requirements where the line plays a role above that of purely being able to deliver the fly. I am in agreement that no one manufacturer can best provide everything in a fly line range.
