    Interesting. Some creative ideas there.

Still blows my mind how they can make them so realistic.

I'm still struggling to make a PTN that doesn't look like a brown thing with spikes sticking out in all directions

Yup... it takes a different kind of patience and skill to tie flies like that.
Hey.. a brown thing with spikes out, will still catch fish.

Whilst talking about skill Andre, did you manage to finish off that batch of home-made CDC based on that article you told me about from somewhere in Ontario Canada, where they took fine select marabou and soaked the feathers in oil. The whole point was to avoid taking feathers from water fowl and rather make their own.

How did you batch turn out?

    Fireflies

I am helping a girl that is studying SET DESIGN at Cape Technikon, doing a model of a firefly (not 100% realistic, as there has to be some creative flair/input) of about 6 feet tall, as their yearly project.
It is amazing how my fly tying has helped with the creation of the fire fly.
Thinking of the textures, the legs, the wings etc.

I showed her a lot of the realistic flies to get her creative juices flowing.

I haven't actually tried the flies yet, but will let you know as soon as I do. My friend is from Vancouver, and has a fishing lodge in BC. He has said that he will send a video of the process of impregnating the Marabou feathers with the specific oil that they use which is apparently a secret... but it smells ominously like almond.

Ya.. cyanide smells like bitter almond apparently. The other species of almond is called sweet almond, two types, both very different.
