    Default Trout tackle?

I'm looking to get my first trout fishing set up and would like your suggestions on what weight rod, line etc I should get. I would like to fish both rivers and stillwaters here in KZN. And any idea on what a basic set up would cost? Thanks in advance.

    I would recommend a #5 setup.
Not sure how much you want to spend?
If you can give an indication of your budget, it will be easier.
A good second had outfit can be a good starting point as well.

My budget would be about R2500 maybe more. I'll have to wait and see. Where can I get second hand tackle?

You can get a good new setup for that price.
If you shop around, you should be able to pick up an even better 2nd outfit.

Maybe someone on the forum wants to sell his old setup????
Ask around the tackle shops if someone wants to upgrade and sell his old tackle?
I think most fly shops will be willing to help you with the prospect of you upgrading, that you will come back to them.

PS: keep an eye on gumtree, OLX etc.
If you are not sure about a setup that is advertised, post your questions here, a lot of guys will be willing to help you with info

Does anyone know if you can buy straight from the Xplorer factory in Durban?

There is no Explorer factory. Their products are all imported, but give them a call, and they can refer you to their dealers.

The Kingfisher in Hunter street Durban is the only one i know of offhand but i am sure there are others.

This one does have a large selection of fly fishing equipment.

You could also potentially take a look in the sponsored advertisers section of this forum and call some of the guys from those stores - I know i couple of Durban guys that source their FF gear outside of KZN exclusively due to a lack of options locally.
