Durban Harbour and Springers (lady fish)
As a kid we grew up fishing for springer (lady fish/skipjacks) in Durban harbour.
We used little Glassy's as live bait.
Do any of the forumers know if they still catch springer in Durban habour?
For Old time sake, will love to go and catch one or 2 of the springers?
Where else are they being caught at the moment.
Have not heard to much of springer/skipjack/ladyfish being caugth lately.

Still around - you really need to get out on a boat and fish the Center Bank adjacent the container terminal, especially the St Ives channel. Ideally a dropping tide around dusk. Saw a real chunk a few years back - mate hooked up on a Z'Claw at the old Royal Zulu and ran out a very tight drag and spat out a straightened treble. We used to get a few in St Ives when we could still wade the Center Banks...
Fingerling
We got 11 on fly rods with 4" KPs last year drifting over the centre bank at high tide at night. A shoal of Estuarine Round Herrings got attacted to the boat light and we would scoop a few put them on live and just dropped them over the edge of the boat and had the time of out lives. Massive silver flashes would go through the shoal and we'd be on. Also got a cob and 2 grunter feeding on the same shoal.
