    the best advice I can give you is to ask more experienced guys if you can go and fish with them, you will learn more in one day than 5 years on your own

    My view on this is that you need to fish the situation as it is best fit to fish. If conditions demand/suit to fish a single dry fly throughout the entire day then so be it. You also have to ask yourself what your mission for the day is. Sometimes I really just like to be out, and catching fish is secondary. But if your primary goal is to catch fish, then you really do need to fish the technique that the situation demands. Sometimes a specific fish even requires a specific technique - for JUST that fish.

    Exactly, but some people have never done anything but i.e. upstream dry fly.
