I believe that Paper Mouth is also a rather decent quarry. Haven't caught any myself. Personally I enjoy sm. Easy access to them, reasonably technical, depends on where and when in the season and they are all round just fun to catch!

However, the King has to be the Large Mouth... just because they are so brutal on novice mistakes...

Well, if you guys are speaking in labeo(barbus) terms, don't leave out the Rhino-barb from kenya, which can grow almost 50kg and found in ashti&tana rivers. And of course the golden mahseer of india...but that is the King. For fighting and availabilty and bringing people to flyfishing it must be the smallmouth. Sure largies strike hard and that first 1 or two runs are devastating. But after that, the fight calms down. Hook into a 4kg smallmouth in a current or stillwater pool in vaal and pound for pound and time wise it will give you a better fight. And unlike other yellow species, they are available in large numbers and caught constantly throughout the year. Not strange to get 10 fish or even 20 a day, with 2 or more above 2,5kg. Which other yellow specie in S.A. can compete with that? Smallies are the princes!!!
