    Default Baby ostrich 'fur'

Now here's something that I'm sure we could put to good use. I picked this stuffed specimen up for less the R200 at one of the Oudtshoorn ostrich farms two years ago and didn't give it much more thought,....until just now that is.

The fur like feathers suddenly caught my attention and a quick pluck or two found me at my vice. This simple stimulator style pattern is what I came up with.
For want of a better name, I have dubbed it the BOF (Baby Ostrich F****r)

I have no doubt that the fur like feathers can be used for a multitude of fly-tying applications

Very similar to a pattern I tie using Emu neck feathers. Nice.

Seems like nothing can run away from the vise! Good looking fly that......but I think getting hold of that might be difficalt.......you know, with old "groot toon" (mother) around, you might end up in sergery (removing her toe from your hol)

Thanks. As fly-tying materials go, baby ostrich is flipping cheap by comparison, and should be quite readily available. Apparently their mortality rate is quite high. Definitely worth exploring
