    Default Wrap guard

    Hi all.

In the latest Flyfishing issue, there is a section on springer and some flies that can be used. They also mention a wrap guard, which I think meght be something to do with limiting tail wraps. So here is my questions:

    • Is my assumption anout wrap guards right?
    • How does one go about constructing this?
    • Does it work?

    Regards,

    Kreef

    have not seen the article.

To prevent tail wraps, take some bucktail and wrap that first on hook shank.
If you don't have the right color, use white bucktail and color with permanent marker to the color of your tail.
THis is also usefull with wooly buggers, zonkers, bunnies etc. to prevent tail wraps.
Wrap your tail then on top of the bucktails.

Phillip at Eikendal showed me a nifty way to make them on Whooly buggers.

He uses very thin tippet and makes a small u shaped loop on the shank that extends over the back. The tail then lies on top of it. Works a charm.
