    Caddis patterns.

Considering the variable patterns availble for this am sure we can get a good variety.

Reckon the idea as mentioned before of doing swaps this way might me more benficial to newbies as well with some tuition tips from the "masters" and possibly some interesting info on each pattern be it the history of which or the life cycle of the specimen.

If I'm not mistaken, flies per species have been done. Dries have been done!

I suggested Klinkhammers cos they are a versatile fly that can be used on the Vaal, on the streams in WC, the rivers in Natal and the rivers in MP, as well as the the rivers in the EC.

Heck, they'll even work on the rivers in Europe and America.

And on top of all that, there are many variations one can tie.

With regards to tying dries for the Vaal, there are maybe 3 guys(and no offense to any one else) who's dry flies I will even bother using on the Vaal, the other guys quite frankly have not experimented with them enough to actually say, this is my fly "x", and it absolutely slaughters fish on the Vaal - if you get what I'm saying.

    Just my thoughts!

I'd like to join this one. The hassle I see with NOT tightening up on dries is that someone (not me of course) is going to tie a 2/0 balsa bass popper. It floats... So maybe we should just spec the hook size range. Stimulators are probably the biggest anyone is going to tie - so, say size 6. Smallest, well, if Eddie Herbst still lurks around this site it could get as silly as #28. OK, realistically, size 20. That's my 2c.

I doubt any of us would calsify a popper as a dry fly?

All the international swaps I've been on have been rather specific regarding a theme. Examples:

    1. Caddis Pupa
    2a. Mayfly DUN (Upwing/Hackled)
    2b. Mayfly DUN (Parachute)
    3. Mayfly Emerger
    4. Mayfly Nymph
    5. Adult Stonefly
    etc etc etc.

This gives everyone in the swap a great chance of seeing what options there are in tying the "same" fly.

Like Dizzy suggested, Klinkies is a good start. One pattern, with the different variations and subtle additions of the tyer.

    My suggestion:
    Upwing Mayfly DUN (Normal Hackled)
    Mario Geldenhuys
Smallstream fanatic, plus I do some other things that I can't tell you about
