I did read an articale once where some uber rich fellow made it his life's mission to catch a GW on fly..... He had a special reel, rod, and flyline built up for him ( at the cost of around $20 Thousand US!! ) and figured the only place he could legally target GW's was in New Zealand, as they are protected species pretty much everywhere else they occur....

Anyway, after spending ALOT of Money and time, he finally managed to hook one, on a fly tied on two 12/0 hooks.... They had a life size shot of the fly in the Magazine Article, and it took up 4/5ths of a double page A4 Spread!!!

Apraently the shark swam around for about 40 minutes before the angler realised the shark had no idea it was hooked, so he tried a little more pressure and the GW decided enough of this Sh#t and stripped him clean!!!

These animals are not meant to be caught, on any tackle, let alone fly tackle!

Just out of interest, SWAMBO insisted that I go Cage Diving on with her on Friday for White Sharks. Flip that boat had me checking out the one side all day for the sharks.

Anyway, back to what I was going to say: Apparently, the Great White has only been held successfully in captivity for 6 months, until it started eating all the other sharks, so the aquarium let it free.

This particular shark was held at Monterey Bay Aquarium. There should be another rerun sometime soon on National Geographic (channel 66). Program was called Ocean in a Glass.
