    Default TigerFish Flies - Your GO-TO 5

    Hi guys,

Would like to heard from the TigerFisherFellows on here what would be your 5 favourite, must have, don't be caught dead without flies. (This is for ZA, not for outside of ZA)

Pictures would be great too, if you have them.

    Thanks,

i'd also like to know what flies as i know someone who's going to be fishing for them soon and he needs some flies..
Behold the fisherman. he riseth early in the morning and disturbeth the whole household. mighty are his preperations. he goes forth full of hope and when the day is ended, he returneth smelling of strong drink and the truth is not with him. originator unknown.

Well, I've only fished the Komati for Tigers inside of South Africa so what I found to work there might not do it for Jozini. What I can say is that it is not always the biggest flies that works. Try dark strip leeches, and normal walk of the mill trout minnow patterns as well. In the Komatie I found that blach and purple was a winner.

Ja I've seen the Black & Purple, Black & Red, Black & Yellow/Chartreuse flies and I'm sure you will be able to make do with a standard Salty Bugger or Clouser, but I'm hoping to get a better idea of what is actually in the water there and what definately works.

How well can she haul a mepps on a fly rod?

Jozini is full of robbers, small bream, labeo etc but the reason dark flies work so well even though they dont really match too many naturally occuring fish in the dam is because of the water clarity. As my five "must haves" I'd take black, black and red and olive and white clousers, black flippers and a small sprat pattern (like a small flashy profile). Depending on where in the dam you're going to fish, what time of year it is and what size fish you're targetting then some of those must haves will work better than others. Clear water around weed banks targetting smaller fish then the sprats and flipper are good fun. Murky rivers for bigger fish then the darker clousers are a winner.

Dont forget to take some sards for chum.

I'd be taking my boet's one rod with I think, other than the Black Furys, I've read that RED rapalas does the trick ?

Ja well if it happens it will be next week, when we drove past there on the way to Kosi the water looked good from afar. Marno was also there recently, should actually speak to him about the clarity and conditions.

Surely the bigger females should be hanging out in the dam as it is not spawning season ?

There are certain things even I won't do, black girls and chum being both of them.
