Forgot to mention at present it's still veyr early season. Are they still stocking Eildon Pondage with the monster old brood browns/bows form Snob Creek Hatchery? They usually do it in late Aug/Sept.
In September, on the smaller streams it's still a bit too miserable for mayfly, but black beetles (trusty Red Tag works well) and Grannom caddis (use adult with green 'egg sac' at tail) work well> On the Goulburn the snowflakes (white caddis) are starting to get into abundance. You'll no doubt see stacks of these at dusk. Various white imitations of hatching pupae and adults work a treat at this time. There are a few Baetis hatches starting to come off. The PTN works well for the nymphs. Adults are usually greyish, yelow or olive this time of year. Brown beetles starting to work.
October/November usually sees the start of real mayfly, caddis and beetle action with large hatches. Hoppers, cicadas etc usually Christmastime onwards
