    Default Mooirivier trout Help!!!

Good day gentelmen and odd lady..

I have never cast a fly for trout and would love to give it a go.

I have been invited to a fam in KZN's Mooirivier area, the people are not keen fisherman but have cought trout there before.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction for fly selection as i would like to tie a couple over the next few day's.

A hint or two on how to fish them will also be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Hi AB1

The same tactics/flies employed for yellows work for trout...
Thats how most of them were developed.

I found #16 nymphs on 6x tippet were great last month. Beadhead (pref black), stripped peacock herl abdomen, black dubbed thorax. Use a Liesenring lift. I used a small ball of floating putty. Dries are good. Klinkhammers & parachute Adams worked for me. Size #14 or #16. Use a 12' or longer leader/ tippet for both. These are shy fish.
