My word, a long lost sould has returned
Awsome flies Mike! How do you spin the head with that kinky fibre? I find that it gets water logged and hets heavy to cast.
Here's an extension of some flies I've been messing with recently using some kind of natural tail of bucktail and/or feathers and a head of "spun" kinky fiber blend hi tied and trimmed like deer hair.
I started with smaller baits, like sandeels, but I'm now trying out some fuller bodied generic baitfish. I'm exaggerating the head profile to be a little fat, like a muddler minnow, to provide a little mass at the front and make the tails kick more on the strip or in current.
Every time I test a fly with a denser head and a wispy tail, that tail swims and wiggles more. The purple/black is just a straight bucktail tail (two BTD collars, actually), while the generic olive and the little mackerel have bucktail surrounded 180 degrees on top of the shank by saddles -- "tented"like the upper 1/2 of a semper fly tail. Kinky Fiber is great stuff.......

Those are very impressive. I like the way you've built up the heads. Thanks for sharing.
Deewy, how are you mate? Yep it has been a long time, lost computers and web sites, not to mention log inns and all the other crap.
Anyhow, I'm back - not that I ever left - but here we go, the adventures continue I have fished - Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska, California, and BC so far this year, ( thanks to the job - not the bank account)
These flies work brilliantly, I keep the kinky fibre sparse and short, I have had a little trouble with water logging but not much if I have to be honest.
The're niiice..can see you've been around the block once or twice....
Well done.
Great flies there!
What size hook you tying them on as per the pictures?
