I'm looking at getting some hackle, but they are extremely expensive, so I'm looking for 1 or 2 people who may be interested in sharing with me, that way, we bring the cost down a little.

What kind of flies do you want to tie and in what sizes ? If it's a whole variety of sizes and flies then have a look at Keough Capes. These are very good value at around R225 - R325 per cape.

I thought someone would ask that! I want to tie some klinkies, holsloot spinners, and RABs in sizes 14, 16, 18. (Can't manage the 20's and 22's yet)

Then the Keough Capes are the way to go. The Whiting and Metz are very nice but bloody expensive - not worth it in my opinion.

has anybody tried the conranch hackles: http://www.conranch.com/

They probably wont be available locally but i think you can order them from the website. The americans seem to rate these capes.

Have a look at Whiting (preferred) or Metz saddles. They'll also set you back between R230 and R300. A good saddle has enough feathers for hundreds of small flies. Lovely stuff! The stems of Keogh capes can be a bit stif and thick, so be sure to have a good look at the cape, skould you wish to go that way.

The best value for money is propably the Whiting Super Saddles. You can get half a saddle in Bronze grade for about R 250. This cape will tie thousands of # 14 and #16 flies. The cape will also have quite a few # 18 feathers.
