    I remember a fly that was tied by Paul Slayer several years ago. he used pearl flashabou for the wing, as well as along the back of the fly, as a sort of wing case. It's a fly that is still in good use, and has even been taken on by some commercial tyers as part of their range.

    Yup - "Pauls slayer nymph", one of my favourite control flies on the vaal in about a size 8 circle or size 10 scud. Even work well in the komati.

    The commercial versions only ever came in a single colour but if you tie them up two tone style, with a light abdomen and dark thorax, they're even better.

    Wot? you mean there is something better than jelly nymphs? I thought those must be the best as I think they appeared in both mags shortly after each other...

    no really I like the look of these - I reckon they'll catch, or at least look real good in my fly box
