    Default Valley of the Rainbow

    Hi Chaps,

Does anyone know much about the venue "Valley of the Rainbow"? I'll be heading there this weekend, so am curious as to what the fishing is like etc..and what the roads are like getting there?

Roads are OK so long as there has been no heavy rain. Fishing is not too bad - pretty much standard stock pond stuff. River was a waste of time when I was last there.

Last I heard they had some bass though?

Ryan! I would rather go to Beth Shean next door than go to Valley for the rainbow! You will be fishing for stockies with cut lawn around there dams! Went there last year and was very disappointed. The fish average about 500 grams.

The guy at Angler's Den said that they were having problems with bass...

He also said that the fishing was exellent, but then again he says he used to manage their dams..Oh wel, I guess I'll have to wait and see..

There is an interesting read about a guy asking for 25K that you could also read through.

My father in law stays 7km from this venue, so I go there +-10 times a year.

I was there last weekend for the day. I landed 6 trout in total. All were in the 500g range and VERY skinny. Seriously, I have never seen such skinny fish. Orange hot spot (2) and red eyed damsel (4) were the only flies that produced. I used a intermediate line with a slow retrieve.

Dam 3 is unfishable due to grass covering pretty much the whole dam.

The fishing the last year has become tough. 2 - 3 years ago all dams produced good fish ( 1 - 1.5 kg) with almost no bass. Now the bass are running wild.

I have a theory why the fishing is so bad.

    1. I usual keep 1 fish to see what they are feeding on. The past 3 visits all fish were empty. Not even a bloodworm. I am of the opinion the bass has become major competition when it comes to the limited food source.

    2. There are 1000's of bass fry that swarm around your fly, thus attacking any other fish that tries to go for the fly.
