There are few guys on the forum who have tenkara rods. there was thread a while back where it was discussed. I was looking at getting an outfit, but didn't really pursue it. I think I should re look at it, it is a lot of fun from what I hear.

Pretty much every smallstream fanatic or follower of Japanese fly fishing culture will be into Tenkara. In South Africa though, the following is still small. There is a small crowd though ... We are doing some experiments with Tenkara-like setups (not the telescopic American version) and should have some feedback in a couple of months.
Tenkara is good though, especially up here ...

Just get yourself an 11' nymphing rod from some of the specialist rod makers.
Then you have a decent nymphing rod as well.

Looks interesting, sort of like a flyfishing cross of technique between using a long dapping rod with floss line (although that uses a reel) and the old-fashioned Thames roach pole which I used to use but with a float and bait, and the current continental use of long rods, now telescopic) with a fixed line (also mainly with a float and bait).
Is is mainly for smaller streams and smaller fish bearing in mind I guess the limitation of not being able to let a big fish run?
