BTW, the line is not an accessory, it is core to the whole outfit. Figure on about R500, if not more for a decent line.
Yup, your line should be the first thing that you consider. It is the most important item in the setup, and should not be underestimated. The rod and real are the accessories.
the order of importance, are the elements working back from the fly, to the reel.
1 Most important, the fly and how you make it work. it is the fly that the fish will decide weather or not to eat it, so if he thinks it's food, and it is behaving like food, he eats it.
2 Second most important, is the tippet and leader. These are going to dictate how the fly is presented to the fish, and how it behaves, once the fly is on or in the water.
3 Third most important, the line, but without it, you are not going to put the fly near the fish, but with it, it is going to decide how you do this.
4 The rod, not that imporant, but merely the tool to cause the line to deliver the leader, tippet and fly.
5 the reel, least important of all, simply hold line, and unless you are a complete tackle slut me, you won't allow anyone else to convince you otherwise, nor will you find any great proof that the reel is anything else apart from a line holder. Nice reels are nice to have and a pleasure to use, but are they neccessarry?....no, not rerally.
Ok, now we have addressed the tackle, the other elements are you hand, your arm, and your brain.... these things need to be trained, so don't deny the value in a few early lessons.
