This pattern was tied to be coral proof as opposed to weed proof. When the keels hit a snag, the beads simply shift past the bend and the fly bounces over. The tungsten beads also provide the weight to sink the fly straight down.
The idea behind the fly is to have a pattern which can be presented static while retaining some subtle movement. The zonker provides this. The fish will be alerted to the fly on landing or during the retrieve but it must stop once it's been spotted.
The action on this fly is amazing. When retrieved - twitched - it moves into a horizontal position but on the pause the claws shoot up in a protective posture.

If they still don't listen, you can simply distribute the belly's sand & epoxy mix to form a slight lump on the hook eye side.
Oh yes, it's critical to use sand from St. Francois atoll for the belly. Mixed with Pratley's Wonda Fix, it's the perfect colour.
