    Default Prawn Eyes

I need some help please...How do I make nice black prawn eyes from monofilament. Mine always come out light brown - not very visible at all. I want to make nice large conspicious black eyes.

Are some makes of monofilament more suitable for making black eyes?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Colour them with a marker pen. That works for me.

Green monofilament turns black when heated/burnt

I'm making crab eyes at the moment
    It's mc's formula

Take thinish mono melt the ends to form a little blob
Paint the blob with colored nail varnish (I'm using orange)
Wait for it to dry and paint again ( and dry)
Then just touch one side with black nail varnish to make a pupil

Then dip in epoxy or high build and put on the wheel

It's a lot of work but it makes awesome lifelike eyes

    Hi there Francois

Yes, as Denton says, it's a mission but the eyes look good. You can vary the size by simply applying a thicker coat of nail varnish or make plain black eyes. The epoxy makes a huge difference in terms of durability. It also makes the eye seem more alive - like comparing flat stick on eyes to epoxy dome eyes.

You can see the eyes in the velcro crab which I posted the other day. Here it is again.......

    Howzit Francois,

You can also use the same thin mono , melt one end slightly ( colour the "FLAT " with marking pen) , slip on a Black or Red or Orange or Green Glass bead. After you have done this , coat in epoxy .

It doesn't look as nice as MC's but it is a little bit quicker.

Hi Ricko - thanks for the JAM flies! (I must conquer this pattern!) Thanks also for your advice - if I can't manage proper prawn eyes now I must accept it and forever hold my peace!
