Thread: Match the Hatch

    Default Match the Hatch

This is what we tie here when chasing marlin on flies off Sydney and Port Stephens – using slimeys as teasers…beats a #14 hare and copper any day ! Also some shots from a day recently – amazing weather and lots of fish around. It is not the stuff of myths – it is there to be done, but you gotta do it from behind a sounder – not a computer screen !

    Enjoy

You guys trawl your flies??? Nice fly!!! no pics of fish. Teasers/poppers, love them. Do you tie the teasers to.

We fish IGFA so no - no trolling - the boat has to be in neutral before you throw the fly - meaning you tease the marlin to the back of the boat then cast.

Don't tie the teasers - rig empty lure behind bird teaser.

No fish pics as topic was "Match the Hatch" and fly related.

    Hi there

Good looking fly. Which brand and size hooks do you rig in there? Are they snelled with mono?

Would like to know more about the rod and reel you use for targeting bill fish...

    Rod is TFO BW HD
Reels are Billy Pate Marlin or as you see in the pic Tibor Pacifica

Hooks differ per species - marlin are Gamakatsu 8/0 or 9/0

Always rig wire as we also chase makos and dont want to rig different flies for different things.

You wanted fish - here is a hot tease - also posted in an earlier topic

    Cheers

That's a nice fly - is the hook free-swinging and is that its final position?
