Injisuthi - Take 2

Just got back from a few days at injisuthi, so thought i'd write a quick trip report.

The river was much higher than last year after all the rain that fell this summer - vaal was not the only washout apparently! This time round i decided to spend some time looking for slightly better fish and bundu bashed my way down to below the junction of the Injisuthi and Cowls Fork rivers. The river here is a pretty big by 'berg standards and no joke wading - i took a few dunks and painful falls - but the scenery makes it worth it:



Casting big bushy flies into the fast churning water brought a good few fish, some nice ones too:





After one to many falls in the pwoerful current i took a break on a beach to reconsider my options - some lovely scenery around here:



I then decided to head up the Injisuthi fork, where the water seemed a little more managable. This is the strech i fished last year, so i had some idea of where the most likely lies where. This is loverly dry fly water:



As was the case last year i found the nursery again and probably caught upwards of 30 fish in 2 hours - they were pretty little things though and good fun:

I am in the market for a new camera for my FF; presently using the Pentax W60.

I'm using an Olympus Tough 8000. Been pretty happy with it - but most importantly its virtually indestractable ... since i tend to spend more than my fair share of time tumbling down rapids and falling over boulders

Thanks Herman, i spotted a few clear(ish) side channels on the vaal ... will be attempting a few vaal under water shots soon

Hi TM,

like FP said, the Olympus tough series is extremely durable, theyb go at about 1.5m drop proof, between 3-10m waterproof. They even go to -10 degrees freeze proof.

I have personally tested all these particular features and found that the cameras are short of awesome. even dropped the camera about 4 times on porcelain floor tiles. No harm done.

Go to a photo store and have a look at them. Pm me if you want a shop close to you that stocks these cameras

Both fairly luke warm, critical of the image quality but full of praise for the rugged construction.

I must say i'm fairly happy with the Tough 8000 image quality ... then again i'm not trying to get my images published in magazines etc

thanks, its in the Drakensberg, and is a lovely spot - if you don't mind being a little off the beaten track. If you're after just fishing though you are probably better of heading to the Umzimkulu or Kamberg area ... the injisuthi is somewhat tempremental!
