That is just ridiculously beautiful!! Stunning! I want one!
Around the steel no tortur'd worm shall twine, No blood of living insect stain my line;
Let me, less cruel, cast feather'd hook, With pliant rod athwart the pebbled brook,
Silent along the mazy margin stray, And with fur-wrought fly delude the prey
Mario, that is very,very nicely done.

Thanks guys. As soon as I can get some more wood I'll make a few more.

Brilliant Mario. Is there anything you can't do with wood? Really really nice.

Thanks man Rols. This piece is actually quite easy to do, but still takes a lot of time. I'm no expert with wood, and still have a LOT to learn, but one thing I learnt early on is to have a proper finish. Not as in varnish finish, but in sanding and glueing/fitting etc. Leave no marks, no gaps - and when your finishing agent goes on, then it will look good.
Stupid as it may sound, the biggest thing is to make sure every piece is sanded before you assemble. Top, bottom, left, right - even if the piece will be hidden or glued over. No shortcuts there will give you a good result every time.
I've got some Wild Olive plank I still have to pick up in Elliot at the sawmill - they have been there since early summer, and as soon as I get them I'll make an article or 2 out of that - and another vice base is one of them. Certainly not a travel piece - that is forsure

Hi Mario
Lovely piece that you made up.
Lovely finish on the wood.
Just a question or 2.
I use to tie on a light wood surface, and after a while, my eyes would take strain.
Don't you find that dark back ground is "harder on the eyes" than a light back ground?
With so many contrasting colors and levels, focussing the eyes on the hook, when tying long sessions, does it affect your eyes?
