Vygeboom dam

Evening all
I'm new to CT and have stumbled upon the Vygeboom dam in Durbanville. Looking at the signs, fishing is not permitted. However, I've noticed fly and conventional anglers fishing there.
Any other venues for carp around CT. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I walk my dog most days around the dam.
Technically, you are not allowed to fish. But we do.
Early morning and late afternoon, is normally good, as it Law enforcement guys are either on their way to work or on their way home.
I have a brindle staffie, that is never on a leash, if you see me, say hello
The carp on fly is good fun.

Afternoon Korrie

I went there on Sunday morning and had an older 'gentleman' confronting me regarding the fishing. Considering our persuit and the ethics that go with it, I would not do our sport justice by ignoring his comments. I did fish for another hour to do my pride some justice (Ha-Ha). Ons kan maar almal goed hardekwas wees as ons wil.

On another note, how do you approach the carp fishing? Do you throw bread and use a bread fly or a heavy fly fishing the bubbles?

I spot them in the shallows, you see them cruising blowing in the mud.

A wooly bugger type of fly or a bloodworm/buzzer type worked as well.
spot the carp and the general direction of moving. They are very skittish.
Land the fly about 2 meters in front of the fish and about a meter and half past its cruising line.
Slowly retrieve the fly to meet/cross the fish's path in figure 8 retrieves.
Hopefully you cross at the exact point, fish eats and you hook up.
I normally fish with a #3.

When confronted, I normally ask why not? The original reasons were nylon lying around etc. I explain, I keep all tippet left overs, so none can affect the birds.
I release the fish etc, I do no harm, so let me in peace, I am not affecting you. Then they leave me.

I agree, we do more to protect the environment as we have a vested interest.
