Ok I dont get this. So I am in the market for a Stealth Bomber 10ft 6w. On the Stealth website the recommended retail price is listed as R2395-00. I just phoned two fishing shops - both have stock but there is a big price difference!
Shop 1 - R1500 - R895 less than Stealth's suggested retail price.
Shop 2 R1800- R595 less than Stealth's suggested retail price.
Whet the hell? Are we to believe the suggested retail price? Are there really shops selling it at 2 grand+?
Gary, shouldn't the suggested retail price on your web be more in the region of R2000-00? or would that P#ss off the shops in the greater Sandton/ Midrand/ Randburg/ Fourways areas?
Does anyone know where I can get it for even cheaper
I enjoy the fact that brand importers state their brand motivations on a platform such as this , and open themselves up to the various responses from Joe FlyFisher.
So here is my fly's worth:
I have just lost my Loomis 5wt to a "boating accident on the Vaal. It is on the river-bed somewhere , and I still cry myself to sleep every night.
I loved that rod!!!
But it has started a debate in my head. What should I be spending on equipment?
I you know me , you will know I am a tackle tart. I completely buy into the fact that you should buy the best tackle you can afford , if for no other reason than the joy you get fishing it.
But right now i am not about to spend 5K on a premium brand rod...
Fact: The Vaal taxes equipment the most . I have broken more rods , scuffed more reels here than any other water.
Is the Infinity , with it's easy repair policy , a suitable rod , until I can reach for a Loomis again...?
The Infinity certainly has features that appeal , using it as a stick for dry fly on the Vaal:
- Fast Action
- Slow Tip
....... or should I just go BIG again ...
I am not sure I could ever go backwards from my GLoomises - they are the absolute pinnacle for those of us who understand sensitive and responsive. Go BIG - I couldn't afford GLoomis rods, so I learned how to build them and now they cost me the same as infinity and yes, I have used the warranty system and it works, but shipping costs a bit. Luckily I travel quite a bit which saves some on shipping

Would be interesting to hear if you have tried the Infinity?

Nymphing, adds depth to your fly fishing.
Nymphing, is fly fishing in another dimension
Look ... that GLoomis GLX is a rod I would gladly donate a ball to have, I'm still torn between having one premium rod v having two 'not so premium' rods for the price of one, so I have immediate spares and backup when on the water.
If money is no object, buy the best tool for the job.
