Those redington boots look lekke, nice and stylish with the red too

I have learned that the trick with wading boots, is not to expect too much. There basically isn't a boot on the market that is going to give exceptional longevity with frequent hard use. The best boots ever, were the old Simms PVC Freestones , which were the entry level boots from Simms, and seemed to be perfectly suited to our conditions. Wading boots overseas in the UK and US, are not considered to be very expensive, and are treated as almost a disposable item. Here in SA, we have to pay a huge amount for them, due to the exorbitant import duties, which makes us feel that they should actually give us more than they are really meant for.

My freestones just latest close to 8 years of hard use. I am very happy with that and that to me justifies the price. I am going to have them resoled, and then use them for more suitable trips while I get another pair of more disposable boots for the vaal etc.

Jade, 8 years of hard use, is exceptionally good. I got about 3 seasons out of mine, and one of those seasons, I used them for 65 river days in one year, so I estimate a pair of Freestones having lasted me about 100 to 150 hard days on the water. During that time, I was fishing competition, running fly fishing trips to the Orange, Rhodes etc, and guiding, so it was exceptionally heavy usage. Also don't underestimate your weight, related to the use you get from footwear. I weighed about 106kg at the time, that's heavy for any boot.
I currently have a pair of Simms Gide boots, which are showing signes of terminal wear after about 8 years, but I still haven't got to the number of fishiing days that my old Freestones saw.

True about the weight, I am only a measly 68kgs. So yeah, I wont have the same impact. I have a new pair of guides too but I just dont find them comfortable at all. I dread wearing them. . . .
