Recipe for mustard colour dubbing

So what colour/material will one use as the thorax??

Start by collecting/looking at naturals.Once you have an idea (peacock,brown,black,etc) remember that what you see(dry dubbing) will not look the same once wet. Test the stuff by mixing a bit in your mouth at the shop.If they ask you what r u doing say you didn't have breakfast...

Ps.For Mustard I use a SLF Squirrel Brown.

Exactly. The only thing I could think of is that it's the colour they go when you squash them

Closest I've seen was a yellowy/beige colour 2 weeks back. But the huge black head was the trigger on those, not specifically the colour.

Herman, they're usually under the same rocks as the mayfly nymphs with the bright orange thorax

By the way guys, I was just messing around tying a few sort of experimental (IE shite..) caddis pupae jobbies a moment ago. The difference between a 'dry' nymph tied with synthetics and a 'dry' nymph tied with natural furs, though they may look the same above water - when submersed is incredible - depending of course on the synthetic and artificial material and density you are using.

Let them rest (like I did in today's 30 degrees C) in the shallow end of your pool for a quarter of an hour and you'll be amazed at the general darker colour and greater translucency of the 'wet' natural material over the 'wet' synthetically-built fly. Maybe the natural needs some sunblock or the synthetic needs half-a-cup of HTH to redress the imbalance...

For whatever that's worth, but it sure takes the pee out of guys who only judge their nymphs 'dry' to match the hatch. Maybe we should first wet the flies in the water if they're tied with natural materials to see what colour/translucency they may actually appear to the fish.
