Twisted Acrylic Pupa
Hook: Grip 14723BL #12 (or Tiemco 206BL)
Thread: Benecchi 12/0, grey
Body: Four ply acrylic yarn, untwisted, marten underfur inserted inbetween pairs of ply, then re-twisted
Thorax: Argentinean hare, dark grey

These type of pupa flies are very popular locally when the summer caddis hatches occur.
Quick question, the Argentinean hare,is it a blend or do you buy as is.I bet you dyed it too! :p

You bet wrong this time.
Argentinean hare (the name on the package) was used as-is, and came already pre-dyed. It is very nice material, with a great blend of soft and spiky. I use it a lot!
Here is the source. Not inexpensive, but great stuff and a package lasts me a long time.

I have a sample of a Jan Siman product called "caddis legs" - basically deer hair sparsely wound into a dubbing rope - looks like it will do the trick very nicely for the head in this pattern ...
