Howdy shit I've only ever caught a handful of yellows at die Mond and everytime under exceptional circumstances. You know you get those days the fish are all over the place and you can see them foraging in the deep holes. Usually early morning before sunrise. At these times they usually take stonefly and damselfly imitations - some of these insects get to maybe 10mm so they can be quite big. I have just been there over Dec and only saw 2 or 3 yellows but then I was only really looking for bass. If you have the means to get off the beaten track (strange concept, in the Tankwa karoo) great times can be had with bass. In one morning session we got about 30 good fish while sharing a rod between 2 fishermen (I packed an empty rod tube!) Let me know when you are going and I might be able to help. Best advice would be to make full day excursions up and downstream, trying to cover as much ground as possible. It's an adventure of note! Keep your eyes peeled along the way.
Hi Willie I trust 2010 is treating you well. Have you been fishing much? Getting any of those monster smallies? I'm coming back to CPT for 2.5 weeks in early March and amped to get a crack at yellows. I grew up fishing at Bulshoek but I've been wanting to do a trip to De Mond for ages. So I am seeing if I can get away for a few days and go and camp at De Mond. I read MC's article re yellows on the site and it was hugely informative. Willie, have you fished at De Mond? Any suggestions on areas to target at De Mond or any other advice about fishing there? Also what flies would you suggest? Many thanks Brent
