No I mentioned 14/0 because that's what I used for the sbs. 14/0 is a brilliant thread and can be used for almost anything.

Very nice Gerrit, I love your stuff. Just did something new yesterday that I would love to get your opinion on inspired by one of your dropper flies on your blog.
Fishing is just my thing. I don't know what it is but it seems that i just can't get enough of it.

Some other really easy flies to tie are: (Check out the "Step-By-Step" threads on the main page, under fly tying...most should be listed there)

    SAN JUAN WORM
CLARET BUZZER (or Any buzzer pattern really)
DIGGERS RED (Like a really simple woolly bugger, all red, and no palmered hackle, just a wire rib. Imitates bloodworms for trout)
BOOBY's are pretty simple to tie.
    BLOB
    TADDY (Tadpole flies)
EGG PATTERN (Like an egg pattern tied with yarn or even orange bead...super easy)
    PLUMBER'S TAPE CADDIS
PLAZA PUPAE (Designed by Herman Botes...super easy to tie and deadly)

Great flies all round, easy enough for newbies.

Yes, flatten your thread first then stick the needle in there. You can also try to use a thinner needle, makes a difference. I used to use Petijean's needle but broke it, now I use a needle I got in one of those C&F fly boxes.

OK Gerrit. I tried your squassie and it isn't too difficult, but I used UTC ultrathread 70 as the thread. It's the first time I've used a split thread technique.

I didn't have any squirrel fur, but found some nameless dead animal (bunny?) in my fly-tying box which had really soft, short fur and used that instead. I'll ask my son when he comes home from school on Friday what it is.

Anyway, here's the finished fly. I think I used too many nameless dead animal hairs, but otherwise I'm fairly happy with it. I think the EP4 trout will love it!

Mike that is brilliant well done! Your ribbing is perfect as is everything else now try and tie it without exposing thread.
