Do you have a picture of the fly Jannie?
Please give advise on this technique.
I know it is very effective and everyone should have a pattern and knowledge how to apply.
I have had success with a specific fly which has a floatant body and color with also some white. I have tried this fly a few times again but could not repeat the previous success. This fly when presented will end up in the middle colum and would lift at the end of the drift, triggering a aggressive take.

This is a nymph fly and have sponge over the thorax. thus it does not drift on the bottom.
You get a similar effect as currently described in Korries mail on flies in the middle column.
Could be that the color was wrong grey instead of a more brown or green.

There is a podcast called six tips on emergers, quite technical but very informative.
