Anybody know of spots close to Aliwal North for Yellows?

I am busy with a project on the N1 from Soweto to Bloemfontein and N6 from Bloem to East London. I will/can sleep over in Aliwal North and make a weekend of it. Does anybody know of spots or venues close to the town?

If you are willing/able to drive about 70km to Lupela lodge, on the Karnmelkspruit, you will find both trout and yellows during summer. Otherwise look for fishing on the Kraai river. The orange itself at Aliwal is very discoloured, so I doubt the quality will be much good close to town.

He has a couple of great bass spots arround Aliwal that he visits frequently aswell. He has great knowledge of the Kraai, which is probably your best bet for Mario's secret yellowfish facination. If you want to catch trout, try Luppela as above or take a drive to Lelliekloof, great dams up there.

Lupela, Lammergeier etc are all definitely worth a go.

Leliekloof - the bottom dam is fishing very well again
