    it's always interesting to read up on stuff like this...i have never targeted sandies, and maybe never will withh all the other trips and focuses, but lovely design and techniques...

    thanks again...i know how hard you have worked on this, so sharing is extra special in this case...

    Excuse my ignorance but are the two extra eyes tied in there because two of them are covered by the mylar piping?
    Really cool videos and flies so thanks to you and Pieter for sharing!!!

    No The mylar piping is only to make it look pretty for my self.The extra one on each side act's as out riggers and if you tie them on give it a shake.It makes a very nice sound.

    I also have to say thanks Big Jim for sharing this info!

    We have some good waters to sight cast to rays in Richards Bay Harbour, I'm hoping some of your patterns and tactics will prove to be successful in Kzn too! If I may, what size hook do you use? need some reference to the size of these flies.

    Yes they do work on other rays.Have landed 9 blue-ray's in one session.And broke a 12wt rod on one.Not one of then sucked on to the bottom.I did not strike but just keep on striping and don't stop until they run (take line).
    Send some pic's please.
    O use a Norman crab on a size 3/0 circle.
    Its what Peter calls the magic carpet ride.
