Have anyone tried Handfishing / Noodling before.

We are off to the orange river in Oct and would like to give it a go.

But where do you start? How do you go about.

    Any help would be apreciated.

I love barbel but there is no way in hell i would try catching them like this.
If you want to really give it a bash here then stand waist deep in the river and slap your hands vigorously on the water. You will definately get a few bites, and crap[ yourself at the same time, especially when a 30kg monster takes hold

I believe our barbel behave differently to these catfish, being much more mobile and active. If you look at some of the clips of guys noodling backwaters, it's all in dead slow sections of creeks and rivers with low flow/stagnant water which are signifcantly smaller than the Orange and they find the cats by feeling for the holes the cats sit in with their feet.

For my money, go stand in a back eddy holding some disgusting form of bait in your hand (dead birds, cut up chicks or half a rotten muddy will do wonderfully) and attract attention to yourself, you will get a cat this way, remember your gloves.
