Default Light tackle fun at Sodwana

    Fly-fishing Sodwana is truly a "lucky-packet" experience.

Last week I spent some time probing the rocks and gullies with an 8wt rod. Using only two flies (a small beige Crazy Charley and a pale yellow epoxy tube minnow) I was able to land 6 species: kingfish, shad, mooney, garfish, saladfish (needlescale queenfish) and wave garrick. The size of fish coming out would have been even more fun on a 6wt, but casting into wind with lighter tackle becomes a real challenge. And you never know when one of their bigger brothers are around to take the fly...

I think there is lots of fun to have in the gullies, but yes the lighter rods are challenging in the wind
