I Don't know if it is a fish taker, but that shrimp in pic 8 looks Yummie! nicely segmented and the proportions looks spot on!

The catch is that this is not clear Sally Hansons, but has a little tint to it, which adds to the slight tan colouration. This fly will last a looooong time! :biggrin:

I would be honoured to tie you a few to try, also as soon as I have some time I will do a proper SBS on this pattern and post on FlyTalk.
Think I will call this one the Glass Bead Vaal Shrimp or in short the GBVS! :biggrin:

P.S. Seems like there is some confusion regarding my post with the photos, the first picture is the original fly which Gerrit tied, so that is not mine! I just posted it to show where I got the idea for the glass bead (which I think is probably one of the best ways to create a shrimp body). Also as already said, all credit regarding the glass bead body goes to him, all the other components of the fly however was my own idea's.

I have to echo Gary's sentiments.
Lovey shrimp.
The other secret is how to fish it, apart from the normal drift.
By fishing it as a "live" shrimp, you will get lots of aggressive takes.
Your curved body, with the tail will give you the correct action.
I would suggest a very heavy point or first dropper, depending on where you want to fish it in the water column.
The heavy fly will anchor the tippet, and the shrimp will flutter around in the water. This technique will work in fast flowing water.
for slower water, there are a couple of other techniques.
It will be interesting to hear on how many fish you get on it.

That sounds like a very good approach on fishing this fly, the tail should provide enough water resistance to make it dance around properly.
Havent fished it yet, so no idea how the fish will respond to it. Hopefully I will give it a go soon!
Another question, do these shrimps actively move around in the river, or do they always stay close to some bankside vegetation such as reeds & hiacynth and only drift when accidently dislodged? I havent found a single shrimp in the middle of the river, only on the banks when you seive the vegetation. I guess this is not a problem, since some monster fish frequent the banks, especially close to dusk.
