I love catching on feel so I am gonna give this a try through some pools on the vaal next time I have a chance.
Fishing the Vaal near Barkly West when doing this you can feel the little guys tap, tap tapping at a biggish Wooly Bugger until a bigger one comes along and klaps it.

Didnt think of it like that Andre, but it makes complete sense - riffles it is then.
Thanks for the replies and insight guys. I will definitely give swinging a bash next time I'm on the river.
My last question... Any names of patterns that have worked in the past? I know Korrie mentioned a few but I am still a bit lost.

Even landed some Bass on the Flymph
This one took the fly right on the surface as it landed at Renosterkop
This one took it fished deep and very slow at Rust De Winter
I have another list of three very good Soft Hackle Flies, will post the link in the morning.
Very good spots to swing flies are overhanging trees, next to reeds etc.
Your leader setup dont have to be long, 2m maybe 2,5 meters, with 2 flies on.
Once you get the knack of swinging flies, a different fly fishing world will open.
Work a stretch down stream, and turn around and fish french nymphing upstream.

another VERY GOOD article

pay attention to the mending across and upstream, very good technique.
normally, you would cast down and as the line swings, mend "upstream" to keep line straight, with technique in article, you are mending upstream to get the line to form a "right angle"

Another important very important factor.
When swinging flies. when you have a take, don't strike.
The French have a term "GIVE YOUR HAND'
which comes down to extending your arm, then only set the hook.
