    I have not been able to counter this problem on the GSM I use for Garrick which is tied with SF blend. I have to straighten the tail section every 5 casts or so, but accept the fact that that little effort can make the difference between hooking a fish or not.

    Make a nylon loop that fits over the fly and is the diameter of your wing. Thread it on your line before tying the fly. It sits over the wing, and while not perfect, hugely reduces tackling... I post a photo shortly...

    Firstly, thanks to everyone for their opinions on the matter. For reference, here is what I am currently using - the mono loop tied in below the wing material. It seems to be working fairly well, although I will definitely be trying out that idea of yours, Fred.20140813_141325.jpg
