Don't go knocking on Death's door, ring the bell and run like hell. He hates it. (anon)
Nymphing, adds depth to your fly fishing.
Nymphing, is fly fishing in another dimension
Hi Brian,
Only saw your question now, apologies.
I use silicone skirts, you should be able to get some from Grant Sports (haven't been there in years), Sensation makes a pack with 6 odd skirts, from one skirt there are usually 3 odd tentacles that you can use. The others are too bright pink, too white etc. In due course I will do a SBS, it will probably consist of 20 odd pics The body is a brush - Fishient Sand coloured sculpting fiber. The front part of the abdomen also Sculpting fiber. Cuurently I also use Fishient micro chenille for the legs, instead of rubber (white round fine rubber you should be able to find inside your jocks or other elastic/stretch cords). I don't use silicone sheets/Organza ribbons for the back, but rather sculpting fiber or craft fur with UV Knot Sense.
The hooks are connected with 80lb braid. Tie the head part first then connect with the abdomen.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Philip
Hi Phillip
Thank you for the advise, it eventually figured it out after trial and errors as long as my arm. I did get a few grunter with your fly, still have it and use it.
I tie for Breezers Fishing here in Knysna and they have been haunting me for a fly that looks like the one you tie and also the Jam fly. I have a come up with a combo of the two, I think, that they can sell in the shop.
