18 months ago we did JHB, Polokwane, Loius Trichardt, R524 and it was fine.
Just remember to keep your wits about you on the R524 as there can be livestock floating around.
If you are feeling paranoid, try the R525 and go in at the Pafuri gate.
Wondering if I could plug into the brains trust here.
What is the safest route through to Punda Maria from Randburg?
Initial thoughts were through Polokwane (Pietersburg) and then head east on either R81 or go through Louis Trichardt and take R524.
Been a long time since I have done these roads and don't know the current conditions.
Is there a better route that you know of to get to Punda or are these roads OK.
Appreciate any help.

Did the trip to Pafuri in March and July.
In March I returned via Punda Maria and the drive between Louis Trichard and Punda is a pain.
The road from tne N1 to Pafuri is actually very good with a few pothole and a short diversion 20km before the Pafuri gate.
From Pafuri to Punda Maria its about 80km depending on the roads you take.

Thanks Gerhard - useful intel mate.
Appreciated.
@Circus - not paranoid mate - just like to try keep the loved ones safe and if one doesn't know it sometimes pays to ask and try alleviate problems.
Thanks - I'll have a look at the route from Pafuri.
Floating livestock and potholes are something I can live with.
PS - any fish in the potholes or are they not big enough yet?
Its dry in the North mate...
Limpopo river just has a few pools.
The Levuvu river has water but you will see more hippo and crocodiles than anything else in the water.
Still amazes me thinking that some guy caught a Zambezi shark at Crooks Corner in the 1950's

Looking at those pics, wow! Now I miss the Bushveld.
Kevin, I have just spoken to my dad, he lives in Polokwane and visits the Kruger often.
His suggestion and the route they take:
The R81 from Polokwane, via Giyani. This road connects with the R 524 on the east side of Thohoyandou, where you take a right and continue to the Punda Maria gate. Let me know if you need his number and he can probably give better info.
