The Gamka river is flowing, it might be worth while to see what is happening in some of the upstream areas. But as mentioned water is dirty.
From a fly fishing perspective it is a waste of time fishing Calitzdorp dam whilst it is that full... it needs to be 100% full and clear for decent fishing!

Troep- find the clear water... the fish are there- problem is that the Nels River inlet will be dry which sucks as far as the fishing there is concerned.

    Hi Kevin

I dont know the dams or rivers - can you try and explain how and from where I should approach the "clearer" water. Where should I go to first from your experience. I dont have much time there and I dont want to waste time in getting to a decent spot.

    Thanks man

Hi Troep, sorry I only see this thread now! Don't fish the dam at the moment - only wate of time!

Try to get to the Olifants river between Oudtshoorn and Calitzdorp. Just ask anybody where to find the Sementpad and when you drive there is 3 or four smaller roads turning towards the river. they have bridges with easy access to the water. If the river is flowing there is good fisging to be had - yellows, carp and bass. If you are realy serious to get a fish send me an PM and I'll see if I can hook you up to the big flyfisherman in that area.

If Gamkariver is flowing - also good fishing if vis is good. If water is murky and dirty - don't waste your time.

If all else fails, go to the sea and give Deewy a call! Only hours drive to lekker salty spots!

    Default Report on Calitzdorp

    Hey guys

Ja, whats the chance - it freakin rained the whole weekend in Calitzdorp!!! We arrived at 4:15 in Calitzdorp. We stayed at Groenkloof - very nice! With the drive to Groenkloof we went past the Dam and the stream that feeds it. The dam is very low, but the waters visibility is workable - I think anything flashy will work. I only saw two fish feeding at the surface after the huge hatch of ants on Friday.

Saturday morning the fish were going mad, after the hatch of Friday evening. The streams werent flowing on Friday, but when we left on Sunday the streams were flowing very strong with crystal clear water. I think if you have the time, and know the area you will get some good fish in very beautiful places. Its a very nice quiet place to enjoy your fishing.

Ill go there again if I ever get the chance and the when the weather is better.

    Cheers guys

Korrie, Im sure if you chat to the few locals there you would find some awesome places to fish. Theres some places higher up in the mountains with huge pools and crystal clear water.

I think we should give it a go in the future. I think in about 2 weeks time the fishing will be very good. The stream feeding the dam is flowing strong after the weekend and the crystal water in it is very good for the visisbility in the upper part of the dam - I could see the difference in only a day.

    Anyway ons chat weer.

The dam is actually much higher than I expected it to be!

I think you should give it another two weeks and it will be much higher after the weekends rain. I think with the sun out for a day or two the fishing will be excellent.
