Default Did any of you fish Baynesfield Estate dam when there was trout in it?

Believe it or not this was true when Athol and Karen Currie managed the place some years back. The one dam was stocked with brown trout...there was a beautiful cottage on it which could be rented for a night or two at some ridiculous low rate...good old days . I got several including one of 4lbs...they were all in good condition too. The water remained very cool because it seeped from under ground...sadly that's a thing of the past as bass took over.

Athol used to charge you R50 to fish...heck it's a pity that such a fishery has been lost half way between Durban and Maritzburg...way out of the trout zone..there is still bass fishing but what a downgrade.

There was also a stream, Umlaas River that you could fly fish for Scaly and rainbow trout.

Why we don't look after such gems??
