Well for once (honestly not taking the pi55 here) it might be due to a canoe race this weekend. Saturday and Sunday are the scheduled days for the Vaal Challenge Canoe Race and they are expecting something stupid like 700 participants and the required marshalls, seconds, fans etc. On saturday they go from domewhere near vereeneging to the barrage and on Sunday from the barrage, through goose bay down to Smilin Through.
There goes fishing on Sunday!!!

Last year they increased the flow to 80 for the same race
I have just confirmed with the Barrage, flows will be increased to 80 cumecs from around 4:00pm tomorrow and will be kept there untill around 10:00 on Sunday, then reduced slowly back to 10.

Just spoke to the canoe race's safety officer, flows for tomorrow are 40cms and Sunday 80cms
