    Default Riet / Jukskei Rivers

    hi All,

recently moved to Centurion and was wondering if anyone had tried to fish the Riet river? it looks pretty dirty at times, but every now and then it doesn't look too bad.

also, driven over the Jukskei river a number of times of late (on the N14) - looks like a nice river. has anyone tried this water? is there access to this water?

if i've spelled the names wrong .. sorry ...

    cheers

    Hey Dev,

1st off, congrats on your wedding! You have a good honeymoon?

I can get some access to the Crocodile close to my house.
(I still got your stuff I collected for you as-well)
I'm not sure about those rivers, wouldn't fish them on my own either.

I know in Centurion we used to fish that river that runs through from Irene side, thinks its the Hennops / Crocodile.
Also used to catch barble at the lake by the shopping center in town, but dont fish those alone either, heard plenty of stories about guys being mugged.

As for the fishing, I have not yet tried the jukskei but i have managed to get some barbel in the hennops, ses myl spruit and centurion lake.

As far as fishing alone goes, it can be done but i do not recomend it.

    Chat to you soon

hey - just read a report last night in Sunday's Rapport about the cleanup they recently had on the Jukskei, thank goodness someone tried to do something about it BUT let’s just say they cleaned 850m of river only and that small stretch amounted to a couple of TONS of sh1t..... so wont recommend it either, the one in Centurion I haven’t ever tried...
No one does it smaller then me!

Rivers around pta are a bit of a hit and miss afair unless you dont mind catching barbel and the odd kurper or bass. You can try the apies near joos bekker caravan park in pretoria(barbel), or the section just before bon accord dam(LS yellows). Be warned that the apies suffers very badly from sewerage spills in summer and it flows directly through pretoria cbd. If you have a connection at the zoo you could be in for a whale of a time though, as there are monsters LS yellows in the stretch that flows through the zoo.

Riet is only really an option just below riet vlei dam but if you can get someone to drop you off near the r21 bridge there are some spots down the "gorge" if you can call it that, that should hold fish.

I would skip the hennops as its very dirty and shallow but it may be an option nearer to laudium (pretty sure thats the suburb?).

Never tried the jukskei but it used to be a very good fishery a few years ago and featured on the odd fishing show or two but it has suffered badly from siltation. It might be an option out towards lanceria but closer to joburg it is very shallow in most places. Some guys have posted of success near leeukop prison as well but that was 2 or 3 years ago.

The Bronkhorstspruit near the golf course in Bronkies is a good option but again - connections and no fishing signs...
