Default What Fly Line is best...

I just bought a few new fly lines, and I must say I am once again impressed with the Scientific Angler's lines. I got the Trout Taper, and the GPX. I see the new shipment of GPX Double Taper lines have fused streamlined loops on BOTH ends of the line! You loop the backing on, then loop on your leaders to the other end.
These loops are tiny...not big like the other brands out there...and Brett from Frontier says they are strong like bull. Great feature this...no bulk to go through the eyes of your rod.
Nice colours too...the Trout Taper is a dark olive, and the GPX is a lighter colour, "willow". Also a green, but subtle...not chartreuse!
    Best of all, minimal memory.

I bought a SA XPS from them about 2 months back - yeah, they're awesome lines, used it for the 1st time on Sunday past - very very nice!

    And the most expensive....

Dean showed me the line burns those Sharkskin lines gave him on the trip to Argentina, when big fish ran off with line. I dunno...too expensive for me...one rock or branch and the line is ruined. Value for money...the GPX and Trout Taper is the best in my opinion.
Or put it this way...the Sharkskin line is not going to make me a better fly fisherman or catch more fish for me.

Not true hey Michael, the sharkskin line is also touted as being the toughest and most durable on the market. About the better fisherman bit. remember, it is all about the combination of things that each give a 1% advantage.
eg. good boots help wade quieter, good rod, gives that slightly smoother cast. sharper hooks, slightly better hookup rate, sharkskin line, just presents slightly better.... add them all up, all of a sudden, your a better angler.

To me the sharkskin is a disadvantage. Paying this kinda money for a flyline is just crazy. Think about it....man it's bloody crazy!!!!! R400 extra PER LINE is NOT going to turn me into a better fisherman. Just as my Z-Axis is not going to make me cast twice as good as a rod that costs half the price.
So maybe yes...the line will make me fish 1% better as you mention...it's not worth paying R400 extra, that's for sure!

Plus...here are my other negative points about it: The "sharkskin" effect on the line is going to pick up dirt on Vaal quickly...or any river...much quicker than slick line.
The wind resistance must be horrendous...

Plus point....ZERO memory...but then again, the GPX and Trout Taper has almost zero too...again not worth R400 extra.

And yes...fish take you around sharp rocks, branches, etc etc...and the line is defintely NOT so much more abrasive resistant that it won't cut and ruin.
And I KNOW it will happen to someone...put a new Sharkskin line on...few fish later the line gets cut off. He will not be a happy man...

I know some anglers with low-end equipment and tekkies on when fishing, that will outfish guys with top-end tackle. a Line that costs almost double the price is not going to make anyone double the fisherman he currently is.

I reckon over 100 fish a day, of anything between 10 and 24 lbs will do that, no matter what line.

You should have seen my fingers after just 17 fish at Mt A this year, and that was with my GPX.

Mike I've got a 3# GPX DT willow floater exactly like that paired with the little stick you sold me and I love it for small stream stuff. I was also sceptical about the strength of the fused loop, but it handled 2x tippet and a decent barbel with no sign of any harm.
