How about trying an egg pattern in blood red or purple?? Might that work. Can then easily vary the sizes?

I hope you find the fish boet, each time I went with a collegue, we did not even see one yellow, we did however see plenty bass in the river...

After all the info I got here, and from some mates who had been there.... I ended up fishing the Vaal. Have post and pics elsewhere.
Although the urge to fish small (river) waters is still bugging me.
