    Default Largescales in the Blaauwbankspruit

    Hi Guys

Has anyone fished the Blaauwbankspruit quite recently? I'm thinking of doing a trip there tomorrow, want to know if any specific patterns have worked or tecniques. I have a bunch of patterns that work for me, but there are occasions that you get there and nothing works except something you didn't tie up! (Tiny lime green san juans come to mind...)

    Cheers
    Mike

The kids and I drove past the river this morning on our way to Maropeng. The river was in full flood.

Yeah I can imagine...all the North flowing streams would have been in flood. Hence, I didn't go. Didn't look like fun out there today.

On that stream and further down, a GRHE variation less the GR, add black thread ribbing, with FB or without have always been my GO-TO fly when nothing else grafts.

It matches what's in the water and there are FAT cream caddis there that always seem to get a nibble.

Small #16 beaded flashguns and #16 to #14 Flash back GRHE's worked for me on the Blaauwbank.

Why doesn't anyone want to tell us where we may fish and how to get there? I know where the Blaauwbank is but not where I may fish. I have been practicing catch and release for 15 years and am highly conservation minded so why dont you want to tell us? If you dont want to place it on a public forum pm me the details. Thanks. I live 20 min from that area and am dieing for a new area to fish.

Well you see, the problem is that we aren't really happy to give out details to free loaders. Why dont you go and do a bit of research yourself? Use the search functionality on this site!
Drive out to the venues in the area, give them a ring, make friends with the farmers or something. None of us know who you are, and dont know if you will take 10 people to a stream that can only really carry 1 or 2 fly fisherman at a time.
Oh, let me just say this, this is my opinion, and I'm not speaking for the other forumites, but I'm sure they share the sentiment, especially since you have only posted in this thread, and not benefitting any of the other forumites.

The solution to any problem -- work, love, money, whatever -- is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Understand what you are saying. You must understand I am new to this specific forum. I am an avid rock and surf, speciman carp & bass fisherman. I have recently taken up fly fishing again so forgive me for not being very informative or of benefit to other forumites as I am here to learn. And WHEN I CAN contribute I will.

Thank you for letting me feel welcome.
